It’s Official!
El Lago is now the central Texas distributor of Charras.
What is a Charras? Is it a Tostada Shell? Is it a Chip?
Well yes is the answer. Charras are a fried or baked tortilla that can be used as a base for a Chalupa or if you put them out with salsa, they are chips!
Flavors, WOW, Jalapeno, Chapotle, and Regular Yellow Corn. The spice pops with just enough flavor to enhance your dish, not overwhelm it. Break one up over a salad and it makes for a crunchy flavorful experience. For the traditionalist we have Nopalitos or Cactus and Linseed oil shells. These are the true El Real Sabor Mexicano or Real flavor of Mexico.
For the healthy conscious we have a baked or Horneadas shells. These take the frying out of the product so that unnecessary oil is not added. They are a lighter tostada. We also have the Casera, a home like fried thicker tostada.
With all these Charras it is difficult to make a choice. I suggest take one type home a week until you find your favorite
I got a question from a customer who loves our Multigrain Probiotic Tortillas. She said that El Lago is supporting the health conscious population with probiotic tortillas that we make with canola oil instead of lard.
She mentioned that our healthy wellbeingness (sic) would be better enhanced if our tortilla bags were recyclable. Guess what? The bags are recyclable! We didn’t print it on the label but I confirmed it with our manufacturer. The tortilla bags recycle under #4 and the chip bags recycle under #5.
Here at El Lago we are always looking for ways to improve our environment.

I got a call today from a Doctor in Giddings saying he tried our new Hot & Spicy Chips and he loved them. These are only out in a few places and you're lucky if you happen to shop at a store they’re in. The big guys don't carry them yet but maybe later this year you will start seeing them at the major retailers. Don't try to come by the factory either. We don't always have them in stock. We only make them for clients when they order and we sell the excess in the local stores for now.
Hopefully that will be a short-term problem since we all like sampling them in the office.
As soon as we get the go ahead from the big guys I will update this post.
Last weekend El Lago participated in a Texas themed weekend. Every product on display at HEB was from Texas. We partnered with Texas Texas Salsa. Both El Lago and Texas Texas Salsa are from Austin so it is a great mix. We had our Regular and Thin chips there and everybody seemed to love them!
We will be doing demo like these from time to time and we will keep you posted.
Food for Lovers produces a vegan queso. This queso is sold exclusively at Whole Foods and is an Austin product. El Lago tortilla chips are the perfect match. The stone ground corn chips fried in 100% Canola oil with nothing added but salt makes a gluten free vegan chip.

UT hasn’t had the best season this year but El Lago has been to every home game with their Tortillas and Chips supporting UT. The Loco Tailgaters have been doing it up at games since 1995 and they know how to do it right! We are happy to support the Loco Tailgaters and their pursuit to support UT students through awarded scholarships

Do you guy’s have spices?
Do we have spices! We have many spices. We have Cumin, Paprika, Lemon Pepper, Fajita Seasoning, and five different types of Chili just to name a few. Each is available by the pound. We mostly deliver the spices to restaurants. If you are eating Mexican food in Austin the cooks are spicing it up with spices from El Lago.
